Ford Granada 2.8 Ghia "Sapphire" 1979 - We are pleased to say that the vendor of this rare of rare Ford Granada has entrusted us with the sale of their Grand Fathers car a 1979 Granada "Sapphire". This effectively one owner car was purchased new from Doe Motors in Maldon and has never left the area since. Originally used as his company car, he owned a local haulage company, he then took it with him into retirement. The car only covered 68, 342 miles in all this time. Unfortunately he passed away and the car has been stood unused since approximately 1992. On passing he left the car, in his will, to his Granddaughter so this is reflected on the V5. Being she is now still only in her early twenties, she never drove the car and it is only offered on the market now to help offset the cost of furnishing her new flat. Offered as a "Special Edition" The Sapphire was only made in 1979 with 1000 purported to of been produced and used the last of the non-injected 2.8 Granada Ghias as a base. Only available in Midnight Blue over Strato Silver, they came with Matt-Black door handles, Alloy wheels, Electric windows all round, Central locking, Power Steering, Factory Tilt and Slide metal sunroof, Headlamp Wash, Front fog lights and then on top you could option a Full Leather interior in Black, which this car also has! After having sat for so long, we were pleasantly surprised that with a quick check of the fluids and a new battery the 2.8 V6 engine started straight up and while we would recommend a full recommissioning before use, to include a service, the engine shows excellent oil pressure and ran well enough for it to drive off the car transporter and into our storage bay, with the automatic box selecting gears without hesitation. The car was stored in a well aired garage and as such the body work has survived very well. There are however some areas of paintwork that show signs of corrosion, more like stone chips etc that have been allowed to spread over time, but no what you would call rust and certainly no holes! The worse effected area is the edges of the sun roof outer panel next to the seal where the paint has become thin and has shrunk back a couple of millimetres from the rubber seal and the leading edge of the bonnet. Past that there are two may be three "dinks" from being well, 37 years old! Interior is excellent for its age, no real damage just a dryness to the leather. The wood cappings and dash board are excellent and the original Radio still works. Tyres exhaust etc are all very good and the brakes work but do seem to drag slightly, a sure sign of standing. In the boot is the correct spare alloy wheel and tyre, plus the cars jack. Coming with the car is its original "Dealer Pack" with the hand book etc in it. All in all this is probably the last chance of owning one of these very rare cars as the rest are predominately owned by collectors. We have been informed that there is now thought to be only 6 left in the world with 4 here in the UK, so an extremely rare Ford thats different from the normal fare of Escorts and Capris, being offered at a price you cannot buy a decent 105E Anglia for! PLEASE NOTE: This car is being offered as needing "re-commissioning" that starts and drives under its own steam, not as a car you can get in and drive home and with no mot.
