From its humble beginnings as a small fishing community to the current day Leigh Marina, there are many stories and tales to be told. The elephant is dressed as a sailor, complete with a yellow Macintosh, all patched up from the many voyages he's undertaken. Look carefully in their design and you may see a few ocean creatures who have hitched a ride onboard the Captain too.

Sure to raise a smile, this design is instantly recognisable as one of the brightest fish in our oceans - the clownfish! Inspired by Southend-on-Sea being a seaside town and the popular Sealife Adventure Aquarium, this design also highlights the importance of caring for our ecosystem. The clownfish, like elephants, have a caring nature, a lot like the amazing care and dedication given at Havens Hospices.

Its abstract design showcases different shades of blues, vibrant pinks with metallic gold, glitter, paint splatter and playful texture. The sculpture embodies the essence of creative freedom, highlighting the importance of embracing one's unique artistic expression while celebrating the richness of our diverse communities and city. Duke - Partner: Southend-on-Sea City Council Artist: Surfex Coverings The vibrant patchwork elephant took five days to decorate, with six people working shifts to complete the design. A real team effort! Surfex normally resurfaces vinyl nationwide, including cruise ships, hotels and office refurbishments, but this was the first time they have ever wrapped something quite so different.

Elovephant -Sponsor: Talis Projects Ltd Artist: Reilly Creative Elovephant has an art deco inspired design with striking metallic gold lines, set off on a purple gradient and sparkling glitter finish. The hearts on the side of the elephant start small and spiral out all over the sculpture, signifying the spreading love around. Elovephant represents taking time to care for others, no matter how small a deed you do, it can mean a lot more than you think.

Here, our Ecophant is providing a refuge for some of Asia's most endangered species. In addition to her own family of elephants, she's sheltering Sarus cranes, orangutans, Bulmer's fruit bats, and smaller creatures, such as tree frogs.

Esta - Sponsor: Revive Digital Artist: James Higgs The design for 'Esta' is made up of illustrated wildlife found in and around the Thames Estuary, the style of which is executed in a such a fashion that it will appeal to a younger audience. The way we live our lives is rapidly changing to combat global warming, James believe in tackling these issues at grass roots and encouraging young people to care about the environment is the way forward. This design is there to spark interest and educate people of what's directly around them.

Keith - Partner: 6rs (Sixredsquares) Artist: Peter Cass Peter's dad, Keith, sadly passed away last year after suffering from a rare form of blood cancer. He was a colourful, joyous, larger than life character who lit up a room. His favourite animal happened to be an elephant and this design pays tribute to him, using abstract shapes to represent his personality traits, likes, dislikes, achievements, sense of humour and love.

Nelly - Partner: BTMK Artist: Donna Newman Southend hosts the longest pleasure pier in the world and is home to one of the first ever purpose-built amusement parks. This sculpture celebrates the resort town's history with a vintage-style design featuring illustrations of classic theme-park rides. Nelly the elephant has packed his trunk for a trip down to Southend-on-Sea.

Passing Phrase - Sponsor: S. Stibbards & Sons Ltd Artist: Judy Goring Elephants are known to have strong family bonds and gather around the injured of their herd. They share sorrow and bring comfort to each other in exactly the same way as humans do. Judy wanted her elephant to carry some of the words and phrases used by people; during her dad's illness and at his funeral. Passing Phrase is dedicated to Judy's dad, Tony Perry (1933 - 2021). The Mandala dot painting was picked as the style after Judy taught a workshop on the art form and realised how relaxing and calming this style was, taking the pupils away from the pressures and thoughts of everyday life

New Opportunities mini elephant Artist: Rocchina Rizzo The design for New Opportunities is based on a tattoo style as in Southend we have many amazingly talented tattoo studios and artists. It is a big part of the culture here. Now that Southend has become a city it has created new opportunites and growth for individuals and local businesses. Rocchina wanted to focus on a subject that symbolised new life and growth, therefore focused on butterflies and moths along with blooming flowers.

She has named the sculpture Sharman the Starman to pay tribute to Helen Sharman, the first British person in space. To add to the whimsy of the design, the ears are reminiscent of galaxies, stars, and planets captured by the Hubble and James Webb Telescopes.

Fast forward a few years and Southend-on-sea is home to a new, rather smart looking electric train. Sir David is painted with heritage green, this pays homage to his past. He spends his days taking his friends up and down the pier and recharges at night.

Yuuki Yoodle - Sponsor: A better start to Southend Artist: Tori Woolley Yuuki Yoodle is made up of quirky and fun-loving characters called 'Yoodles'. Drawing these shapes and adding features is Tori's way of managing her mental health by calming anxieties and letting her imagination run free. The Yoodles developed from scribbling and doodling (Yoodling) in notebooks, creating shapes that evolved into characters. The name was inspired by the name Yuuki, as it means Gentle Hope, symbolising the nature of an elephant.
