Lot number: 137

Austin A40 1962 - This lovely Austin A40 was first registered new in 1962 and has had only two owners in its life, undergoing a full restoration while in its current owner and vendors keep. Only 53K miles recorded on the original speedometer and with many old mots helping to back up this low mileage. Having been laid dormant for 12 years prior to him purchasing it he then set out on a total restoration over the following years. During this time the engine was removed and rebuilt including a new cylinder head converted to run on un-leaded petrol. Its brake system was completely rebuilt using new wheel cylinders, brake linings and hoses and the refurbished wheels, all 5 of them, were shod with the correct Dunlop tyres. Outside the shell was taken back to bare metal, it was at this point it was discovered that the car had never been welded or rusty in its life, so was treated to the appropriate actions prior to receiving its professional respray just over two years ago. Once this was done, all exterior chrome work was replaced with new items, over 1000 spent on them alone, any stainless steel trims re-polished before fitting and all the window rubbers were replaced (phew!) The interior received the same attention, but as the seats were in such good order they were heavily cleaned while the carpets were replaced. The dash is all original and in lovely shape. All in all the vendor spent in excess of 5,500 on the restoration and that does not include his own labour, just the bits he has the bills for in its history file, which also includes various photos taken during the restoration. Now only for sale due to lack of use by its 80 year old owner and his desire for someone else to enjoy it. Although, as we said rarely used, the vendor will ensure it will be running and driving prior to auction. But we guess it would be best to expect a small amount of recommissioning prior to driving. DWC156 comes with its file of receipts, owners manual and original Bill of Sale. For those that might be interested and it would be a shame to do it, the registration book is not marked with "Non Transferable " so the plate itself must be worth 1000 plus, if thats the case ( down to you to confirm this with DVLA not us) Now offered with a reserve that is less than just the money spent and definitely worth it as an investment or a perfect first classic car. NB: Sorry about the poor quality pictures but the owner does not have a computer so these are pictures of photos.
