1970 21 Carat Gold Football World Cup Medal: When Brazil won the World Cup for the 3rd time in 1970, there was a celebratory event put on by FIFA in association with the Brazilian football association to celebrate the winning of the 3rd World Cup. The Brazilian football team attended including Pele, Felix, Rivellino, Tostao etc. Each of the team was presented with one of these medals along with the manager and his assistant. This one was presented to Ken Ashton who was in charge of the referees for the whole competition that featured a number of new rules and regulations including the Red and Yellow cards which were implemented at the 1970 World Cup competition. The medal we have been advised is 21 carat Brazilian gold. Its weight is 101 grams, its 5 cm diameter and is hallmarked. This is a rare medal.

The Final incredibly was the between the world champions Brazil against its former colonial power Portugal. Brazil beat Portugal in the Final of the Taca Independencia 1-0. This was entitled the mini world cup basically to show the world the new infrastructure of the Brazilian regime with a number of stadiums and roads. With Referee Abraham Klein close to blowing for full-time, he awarded Brazil a free kick on the edge of the box close to the goal line. Up stepped Rivellino to take it and as the ball floated into the six-yard box, it was met by Jairzinho, whose header looped over the desperately lunging Jose Henrique in the Portuguese goal. A third 1-0 victory for Brazil in the tournament. A coin was produced in different metals from Bronze to Gold and the team and VIPs were presented the gold version. This one was presented to English Referee supremo Ken Aston who was instrumental in the organising of the football laws and refereeing conduct and decisions used in the championship. This medal comes from Astons family and is 4 cm diameter 2 cm width and weighs 62 grams and is hallmarked.
